Maintenance
By Bob Whitehead
On April
27th
and
May 4th,
we had our Annual Park Clean-Up. There was a great turn out
with about 30 volunteers. Many families came to spend a few
hours of their time to help make the park a nicer place to
be. Armed with chainsaws, gloves, and waders, people came
to pick up sticks, cut down trees and collect garbage.
People also brought rakes, and brooms to clean-up the
common areas and tennis courts. Graffiti was removed from
the playground equipment. The social committee provided hot
dogs, chips and lemonade to those who participated in the
clean-up. Together with the help of neighbors, we were able
to remove well over 20 dead trees, which proved to be quite
a cost savings to the Association.
It was so nice to see and hear laughter of the kids playing
on the playground equipment together and a baseball game
taking place while moms and dads contributed to the
cleanup. Some teenage residents showed up and were most
helpful, and able to gain some community service hours.
Other improvements to the Park include necessary
replacement of the damaged
Tennis Court fence, Asphalt path repair and application of
sealcoat. The areas around the swings, basketball courts
and small common area used for baseball, as well as, the
pathways have been cleared of overgrowth and widened . The
purpose of this is to open up the areas around the park to
provide a safer environment.
A company has been contracted to complete the park clean up
beginning June 17th.
This will include removal of dead trees from common areas,
and pathways that pose a potential for damage. All debris
will be removed from the property and the woodchips will be
spread throughout the park. The contractor requested that
residents exercise caution while in the park the days
during the clean up. Cones will be set up in each area as
the work progresses.
